The second-generation Mahindra Thar has created a major buzz since its introduction and recently it has also gone through off-road testing and here we will find out how it fared. The features and designs of Mahindra Thar make it a very desirable option for many buyers and even considered a legendary innovative vehicle by many. The LX version of the vehicle is more urbanized and suitable for the plain roads and offer automatic gearshift only along with 18-inch wheels. The AX variant has 16-inches wheels and also comes with manual gearshift option. The car features much better finishing than its predecessor and though the basic features of the Mahindra Thar is still retained like the three-door style, the new upcoming Thar is much more modernized and chic. There is also daytime running lights in the upcoming model and LED taillights and the split tailgate. Overall the design of the car is bulky but the finishing is done in a slick manner.

The front grille of the vehicle has been changed somewhat and the original Mahindra Thar grille was 7-slot. The new style is a chequered pattern for the grille and vehicle purists are likely to miss the old classic design in this case.

The most important part about reviewing the upcoming Mahindra Thar is the performance it gave on and off the road. The car has a 2.2 common rail unit and can make 130bhp along with a peak torque of 300Nm. The engine is very pliable and the gearbox is smooth enough for controlling the vehicle well. The manual transmission is progress to 6-speed variation which is another improvement compared to the predecessors. The engine is comparatively quitter as well which is definitely an improvement. Besides all these, the new design has focused on entertainment factors and comfort within the car and in the segment, the vehicle has come miles ahead. Steering mounted controls, rear window defogger, cruise control are some of the new features that was never before expected in this specific vehicle. The pickup of the vehicle is good and the only drawback one can think of after driving it is the brake. There are disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear and neither of them are too precise or smooth. This can become a concern, especially during rainy seasons and if you are travelling off-road.

The suspension of the vehicle is quite stiff but gives a good off-road balance while driving which means it is a safe vehicle to drive in rough terrains. Overall the new Mahindra Thar has every feature and characteristics which make it at home even in the rough terrains and this is one of the reasons why the vehicle has gained such popularity.
