An AMT variant of the Renault Triber has recently come in the market. The model is quite popular with approx. 40,000 units sold in less than a year since it was launched. Initially there was only one engine and gearbox combination available for the model and even with that, it had sold rapidly which is commendable. Now, an AMT or Automated Manual Transmission is also available as an option. This article is about the different specifications of the new AMT version and how well it fared for the loyal customers of the Renault Triber.
Engine specifications
The Renault Triber comes with 1 liter three-cylinder petrol engine which can generate a power of 71 bhp at 6250 rpm and the peak torque is 96Nm from 3500rpm. It has a fuel efficiency of 18.5kmpl which is marginally less than the manual transmission variant. However, this is a small price to pay when you consider the ease and comfort of driving this new model. Other relevant specifications of the car remain unchanged.
Performance
The most important query any potential customer will have is the performance of the AMT gearbox. The Triber’s AMT or Easy-R as it is popularly known, comes in 5-speed unit. The gearshift is quite smooth but the process takes slightly more time than expected. This will not be a problem when you are driving in normal city traffic speed regulations. However, if you are trying to overtake a slower vehicle ahead, you will have to plan the maneuver carefully. Another plus point of the new AMT upgrade is that there is an option to shift gears using the manual modes too which is handy in times when you need a quicker gateway.
The Renault Triber features a proper gear shifter unlike the Qwid which comes with a rotary knob. Hence the feel is more realistic when you are trying to switch between drier modes, neutral and reverse. There is an additional creep function which let your car to roll slowly in the drive mode when you lift off the brake paddle. This is quite useful in a high-traffic roads.
The 1litre engine is adequate even for the AMT variant and the car does not overheats or get “exhausted” even when running at top-speed. The only minor inconvenience one can think of in the new AMT upgrade is a rather loose steering wheel but it does not affect the car’s performance too much and can be ignored.
Design
The exterior and interior design of the Renault Triber remains the same with a spacious interior and European design. The multiple seating options offered by the model also remains the same which is a relief for buyers who are majorly drawn to the model because of this unique perk. The rear seats can be removed completely or partially as necessary, making it convenient and practical.
The price of the Renault Triber AMT is approximately between INR 6.70 to 6.90 lakhs and it compete against hatchbacks like Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Maruti Suzuki Swift, and Datsun Go+.
