BMW X5: To Buy, or Not To Buy, Must Read a Complete Review

A mid-sized luxury SUV is at its best, when it balances effortless on-road driving satisfaction with modern tech and a posh cabin, and the fourth generation BMW X5 does just that with elegance. The SUV is available in three variants: 30d Sport, 30d xLine and 40i M Sport. Armed with new features, design and powertrain, the new X5 is a step up from earlier models. The petrol powered SUV is packed with an inline-six 3.0 litre engine which pushes 340PS of power and 450Nm of torque while the xDrive 30d comes with all too familiar inline-six diesel motor that puts out 265PS and a massive 620Nm of torque. Longer, wider and taller than its predecessor, the x5’s xDrive50i model has been replaced by plug-in hybrid xDrive45e. A 24.0kWh battery pack is going to provide up to 30 miles of electric only driving range. The regular 40i models also receive some light electrification in the form of a 48V hybrid system. With 0-to-60MPH time of 4.8 seconds, it’s got sports class sedan acceleration, comes with all-wheel-drive, and a relative bargain in this price class. All variants of new X5 are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and it can use the state-of-the-art battery pack to travel up to 84mph without tapping the gasoline engine. The battery pack can be charged at home on 110V or 220V outlets or a public charging station. With an inline-six engine, this new model also takes care of your fuel budget. Combining an elegant and strong design with supreme on and off-road ability, the all-new BMW X5 has an even greater blend of premium luxury performance, technology and comfort.

Inside, the cabin is lined with high quality premium materials, plenty of charging points and myriad of luxury features like power-adjustable front seats, power-adjustable steering column, heated front seats, panoramic sun-roof,dual-zone automatic climate control, a power rear liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, customized ambient lighting, massaging seats, remote start, soft close doors, acoustic glass, and heated front armrest. The X5 offers plenty of cargo area as well. The new generation BMW makes the new model contemporary as well with the introduction of 12.3-inch infotainment system, which runs the latest version of BMW’s iDrive software and can be paired with Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto. Users can control the system using varity of methods, including gesture control, which are less intuitive than just touching the screen or using the centre console-mounted rotary knob.

The BMW X5 earned the IIHs’s highest honour, Top Safety Pick+, from the NHTSA. It offers basic driver assistance features with standard automated emergency breaking with pedestrian detection, standard lane-departure warning and standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. More advanced features such as semni-autonomous driving mode are optional. The X5 is available in Mineral White, Phytonic Blue and Black Sapphire metallic colours.
