“Maruti Suzuki Subscribe,” that is the name of the lease subscription service launched by Maruti Suzuki on Thursday. This service has been launched in Gurugram and Bangalore as of now and offers users the choice of renting a car from their portfolio for a period of 24, 36, or 48 months, for a fixed monthly cost.

The monthly charges, apart from the rent of the car, also covers maintenance and insurance cost. The cars that will be offered in the portfolio are- Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Ertiga, Baleno, Ciaz, XL6, and Ertiga. All of the cars will be brand new.

Subscription Process:

  • Select your car from the portfolios and the tenure for which you would like to subscribe
  • Complete your application and then make the payment for the car: To be eligible, you have to be over 25 years of age, be a resident of India and hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Take the delivery of your selected car: It will take up to 15 days (from the booking day) for your application to get accepted and for you to get your car.
  • Enjoy driving your car
  • Bring it back for renewal of subscription, or to alter the subscription: If you wish to extend your subscription, you will have to inform the leasing partner in 30 days advance. If the extension is accepted, then you shall have to pay the required fees.

Another worth mentioning clause of the lease is that the subscription charges will cover a total of 18,000 km in a year, beyond which charges of INR 7 + applicable taxes will be charged.

This subscription model move comes from Maruti Suzuki after the huge hit that the automotive sector in India has taken due to the outbreak of the global Coronavirus pandemic. In April, car manufacturers across the country recorded a shocking sale of 0 units. In May 2020, Maruti Suzuki sold 13,700 units, putting it at the top of the list of the greatest number of cars sold in the period. June 2020 saw a 274.3 percent rise in the sale, with the number standing at 51,274 units sold.

It has also been suggested that this move was being planned for over a year now. Maruti Suzuki did a partnership with ORIX Auto to put this in motion. Last year, Hyundai Motors (the biggest rival of Maruti Suzuki) had launched a similar lease subscription model, in partnership with Revv- a self-drive car rental service.
