Motorcycle Sales June 2020 Analysed

Since the outbreak of the global coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent nationwide lockdown, several industries have been hard hit. One of the industries that have absorbed a huge brunt is the automotive sector of India, with a shocking 0 sales in the month of April. However, since the gradual easing of the lockdown, the sector has been showing slow but sturdy growth. The decline for the major two-wheeler players, as compared to the same period last year, has been between 27 to 35 percent in June 2020.

Bike Sale Analysis June 2020

Here are the sales numbers and analysis of the major two-wheeler companies in India:

Hero MotoCorp

Selling the greatest number of bikes and scooters in the month of June 2020 (as compared to other companies), Hero MotoCorp sold precisely 4,50,744 units. Hero MotoCorp has shown a 4 times growth over the 1,12,682 units sold in May 2020. However, as compared to May 2019, it has shown a decline of 27 percent.

Bajaj Auto

Second on the list was Bajaj Auto, which recorded a sale of 2,55,122 units in June 2020, out of which 1,46,695 units were sold in India and 1,08,427 units were exported. As compared to June 2019, this has been a decline of 29 percent.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI)

In June 2020, the number of units sold by Honda was 2,10,879, out of which 2,02,837 units were sold in India and 8,042 units were exported. In comparison, Honda sold 54,820 units in May 2020, out of which 54,000 were sold in India and 820 were exported.

TVS Motor Company

With 1,91,076 units sold by TVS Motor Company in June 2020, it took the fourth position in the list. The decline has been 32.6 percent for them, as compared to the same period last year. The units sold by TVS Motors in June 2019 were 2,83,461. The Exports for them stood at 46,259 units in June 2020, and in June 2019 the exports were 57,182.

Royal Enfield

Royal Enfield has also been picking up pace, with a domestic sale of 36,510 units in the month of June 2020. In June 2019, the domestic sales for Royal Enfield were 55,082. Talking about the exports, they exported 1,555 units in June 2020, as compared to 3,257 units in June 2019. Hence, the total sales for Royal Enfield stood at 38,065 (June 2020) as compared to 58,339 (in June 2019).
