Skoda Auto has debuted its first ground up new fully-electric car, based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform. The new Enyaq is a large SUV similar in size to the Kodiaq, and is the first of a full line-up of EVs to follow. Called the Skoda Enyaq IV, the new model takes its name from the Irish word ‘enya’, meaning ‘source of life’, with the Czech brand saying this carries on a tradition of using ‘rugged corners of the earth’ as inspiration when naming its SUVs. This is the second model of Skoda under the IV brand. Armed with a variety of powertrain options and classy look, it creates a very dynamic look and transforms it into a proverbial space shuttle. The brand new, fully-electric SUV promises a range up to 316 miles. Skoda is reputed to build sensible cars for sensible people, and given that the sale of both SUV and EVs are booming right now, its decision to build an electric SUV is inherently sensible.

The Enyaq is equipped with a crystal face, which includes a stunning, illuminated radiator grille. The crystalline front is illuminated by 130 LEDs. The three-dimensional rear lights are fixed with fine light strips. The 4660mm long kodiaq sized four door coupe crossover uses a four-wheel drive EV powertrain offering a 500Km range and the ability to charge up to 80 percent in 30 minutes. The entry-level version is the Enyaq IV 50 with its 55kWh battery, powering a rear mounting electric motor with 109kW. The Enyaq IV 60 has a 390km range while being powered by a 132kW motor and fed by a 62kWh battery pack. The third battery option is an 82kWh which when fitted to the Enyaq 80, provides a huge 500km range through a 150kW motor. The Enyaq can be fast charged from 10 to 80 percent within 30 minutes via a 125kW charger. An 11kW wall-box unit can also be installed at home that will charge the car in six to eight hours depending on the battery size. Finally, a conventional 230V household plug socket can also be used.
The cabin is even more impressive, largely thanks to the material quality. The SUV’s cabin shows a design that has moved on from the current Skoda interiors, with a multi-level dashboard, large free-standing central screen, and a minimalistic look. The new Skoda two-spoke steering wheel makes an appearance as well. The lack of a central tunnel has freed up space for more chubby holes around the central armrest, which has also freed up space for the middle passage in the second row. The long wheelbase of this platform has freed up more space on the inside as well as in the boot, which is a sizable 585 litres.
Skoda will provide the SUV with numerous design packages, which will offer customers with vast choices in interior colours and textures. There will be sustainable material on offer as well. Many other additions that Skoda makes to its other cars are available here as well. The buyer gets the umbrella, an ice-scraper and vast storage in cabin and boot. Up to nine airbags and a slew of driver assistance and connected car tech are also on offer.
