One of the most powerful bikes of the year, only one variant of the model is available in India. A heavy duty bike with all the features needed for daily ride as well as a long journey, the KTM 200 Duke, sets a high standard for excellence. Though categorized as a commuter bike, it has all the powerful features that are essential to a bike enthusiast. The bike available in two colours and weighs 159kg. The updated version of the bike has a notable styling which is significantly different than its predecessor which came into being in 2012. The two available colours are ceramic white and electronic orange. Altogether the features and specifications of the bike is commendable and it is one of the most powerful commuter bike available today. The only drawback one can think of is the high price however, when you consider all the features, the price of INR 1, 74,595 is justified.

Specification

With fuel injection system for fuel delivery and 13.5 litres fuel capacity, the BS6 model of the bike has a mileage of 34 kmpl and riding range of 459km. It runs on petrol and the Maximum power is 24.6 bhp at the rate of 10000rpm. The torque of the bike goes maximum up to 19.3 at the rate of 8000rpm. It is liquid cooled with manual transmission up to 6 speed variation. It has a chain drive transmission type. It has a 4-valve cylinder with one spark plug. The ignition of the bike is digital and compression ratio is 11:3:1. Equipped with disc brake on both the front and rear wheels, the bike is very stable and smooth to ride. The disc brakes are very wide with the front one being 300 mm and the rear one 230 mm. both the tyres are 17inches in diameter. They are radial tubeless tyres made of alloy.

The best in class suspension is provided for the bike with the front suspension being WP APEX 43 and the rear suspension is WP APEX monoshock. Together, it makes the bike extremely smooth and comfortable to ride on.

Design

The design is much different from the predecessor and appears sharper than 250 Duke. It has an underbelly exhaust setup like its predecessor and the name of the model is printed across the fuel tank. Presently it is available in white and orange colour in India. The overall design of the bike is done beautifully and despite the heavy duty features, the bike is quite light weight. For a regular commuter bike, the design is very stylish and it has all the features for long distance travel. The bike is compared closely with Bajaj Pulsar NS200, and Yamaha MT 15 both of which belong to the same genre of bikes.

Features

The new model still features halogen headlamps but have LED DRLs now. It also has a LED tail lamp and turn indicators. There are speedometers, fuel gauge, tachometer, real-time mileage and other instrument clusters that will make it much easier to operate. The braking system is dual channel ABS. it also has a battery of 12V. The multi-reflector headlight is very bright and so is the tail lamp. Most of the instruments are digitized which make it easier to follow.

Altogether, the KTM 200 Duke have a number of all-round features that make it ideal for daily use. It is definitely hardy enough to provide years of service to the rider and despite being rather expensive it going to be a lifetime investment. The bike is already available in showrooms all over India.
