Mahindra Thar: More than just the Muscle, Check Review and Features

Mahindra Thar has always been known as the muscle car, acclaimed for its heavy-duty performance and unmatchable design. Thar has been the favorite of people who looks to do off-roading and sets the benchmark for the rival companies before launching their product in the market.

Mahindra launched Thar’s first edition back in the year 2010, penetrating the entire muscle car market giving it a jeep-like experience. After more than a decade, Mahindra finally decided to revamp the design and relaunch the vehicle in the year 2020, making it more like an urban usage car for everyone.

With its long lost version of 2010, Mahindra tried to catapult with its decade-old vehicle by focusing on the 5 checkpoints, affirming the factors of progressing and technology-driven vehicle. The 5 main factors which were worked on this year’s model are:

The 2020 Thar is set to feature the upgraded version of Mahindra’s 2.2-litre diesel engine developing 140ps of power and 320nm of torque with it. Like the petrol version of the car, the diesel variant is expected to utilize a 6-speed automatic transmission alongside a 6-speed manual gearbox. Additional to that automatic transmission of Mahindra Thar will also be offered with a low range gearbox to its customers.

Launched under the price bracket of 10 lakh rupees, Mahindra Thar 2020 is going to give stiff competition to the rival companies like Maruti Suzuki and Force, who are expected to launch their muscle cars too by the end of the year.

Talking about the revamped design and unmatchable specifications, Mahindra Thar is coming up with forward-facing rear seats for the very first time, providing comfort and keeping safety in check for the passengers.

Trying to upgrade the level of this muscle car, Mahindra has fitted an automatic climate control in the Thar 2020 edition giving the car more like a luxurious experience to the customer. The touchscreen infotainment system, with Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity, looks to be an added plus to provide entertainment in the car. Leather coated steering and gearstick, accompanied with beige colored trim pads with a hand rest. The dual-tone dashboard, and a 3 pod instrument cluster fitted with a digital odometer.

Unlike the old version of Mahindra Thar, Thar 2020 comes with additional storage space in terms of a lockable glovebox, front seat pockets making the car a fully accommodating vehicle. With additional power sockets, and a 12v charging point on the front side of the car carrying a charger for the outdoor travels isn’t going to be necessary for the passengers.

Making the drive smoother than before, Mahindra Thar 2020 comes with a Cruise Control system, simplifying the off-roading experience for the driver. The car comes with a much powerful engine, refined mechanism, eased out controls, and additional safety checks to provide a wholesome experience to the customer.

Irrespective of the fact that Mahindra tried to change the entire design of the Thar in their 2020 edition, there are a few things that they looked to take over from the older design. The basic design of the car remains to be pretty much the same as the old one, but there are upgradations that can be seen with respect to the Headlamps which have been replaced by LED ones and a classic cut design to the tail lamps too.

The new Mahindra Thar 2020, comes with a Locking rear differential, to assist the car on rocky or icy terrains especially while off-roading. Mahindra became the first company to launch this technology in the SUV segment by taking the risk on its Thar series edition.
