Mercedes-Bens EQC: All-Electric SUV Launches in India, Review, Prices, Interior, Exterior

Mercedes-Benz launches its poster child for electric luxury vehicle in India. The luxury segment has so far been missing out on the electric action, but all that is set to change with the launch of EQC 400. It marries the iconic comfort and luxury quotient of a Mercedes vehicle with the new age battery powered core that promises to open up new roads of mobility. Based on the Mercedes GLC, and not a dedicated EV platform, the EQC comes with a modern flat battery placed between the wheels. The EQC 400 gets two electric motors, with each positioned at the front and rear axles.

The EQC 400 is a full-fledged luxury SUV treated in a slightly different setting. One look at the car and becomes clear that this is an SUV inclined towards lighting up the tarmac instead of driving over rough terrains. The front is dominated by a wide grille with a generous amount of tastefully done chrome. The LED DRLs and the headlamp cluster with the blue inserts look in sync with the green theme of the vehicle. At the side, the 20-inch wheels with their blue detailing makes the car look more stunning. The sloping roofline beyond the B-Pillar adds to the merit of the design and at the rear, the slick tail lamps running from one end to the other not only look cool but does justice to the width of the vehicle giving it a dynamic stance.

While the exterior design is nice, the interiors are exiting with a new take on the layout of the dashboard, the air con vents as well as the IP and the infotainment screen. The cabin of the Mercedes EQC is a perfect balance between traditional Mercedes and new-age electric. The soft touch dashboard along with premium material all around lends the cabin an air of richness and opulence. The infotainment system can be operated using touch or the track and touchpad in the lower centre console. Since the system is equipped with the latest version of the MBUX tech, one can execute many regular commands using voice inputs. The cabin space is similar on the inside to the GLC, and since the two cars are built on the same wheelbase, legroom at the rear is sufficient and similar too. The seat is a bit low, due to the floor being raised slightly for the battery, but it is also quite comfortable with sufficient thigh support and a nicely reclined backrest.

The electric powertrain SUV is powered by a nearly 80kWh lithium-ion battery pack that weights around 652KGs and houses 384 cells in a modular design with a maximum voltage of 405V and a normal capacity of 230Ah. The entire battery is liquid cooled. It is also an integral part of the load bearing structures in the case of a crash. The EQC has an estimated range of 450Km+. Mercedes will provide and install a wall-box charger at the user’s residence and while that functions at 7.5Kw and takes 10 hours for a full charge whereas the DC fast charger will take 90 minutes to full charge your batteries.

Priced at INR 99.30 Lakh, the EQC comes with features like seven airbags, attention assist, connected car tech, a sunroof, radar based cruise control, three dimensional maps and heads-up display. Buyers will also get an eight year warranty on the battery.
