Toyota has just released the upgraded Vios in the Philippines, which is being considered as the second biggest upgrade to the design, interior, and tech for this generation of sedan. Another mid-size Sedan of the Toyota family, the Yaris, is also getting updated with features like a new bumper, LED headlamps, and upper grille. Taking inspiration from the luxurious Lexus-like design, the Yaris has been given a lot of new upgrades. However, the rest of the design of the vehicle remains more or less unchanged. You can expect the newly upgraded Yaris to arrive in India by early 2021.
Now the Toyota Yaris, being a hatchback, has a comparatively smaller wheelbase than the Toyota Vios. According to the patent filings and spy shots, the new Toyota Yaris has a sportier look and the front-end, including the dashboard and some other areas, as mentioned, have been upgraded taking inspiration from the luxurious Lexus-like design. For instance, the front bumper has been re-designed with a trapezoidal central air dam which bears some resemblance to the Lexus grille design. For instance, the newly designed air dam will occupy the majority of the front bumper and the bumper will be stretched up to the grille.
Now let’s talk about the inside of the Yaris. Not much has been altered if you compare it to the previous models, except for some changes in the dashboard and the infotainment system. The newly upgraded model will be having the same dashboard inside the cabin, as well as the same central console. The 7.0” touchscreen infotainment system in the car offers iOS and Android connectivity although the India-spec model looks slightly different. The display unit will have the usual Toyota branding on it. However, the design doesn’t appear to be integrated but more like an aftermarket fitment. Similar to the other models that Toyota offers at the moment in India, the Yaris will also have the same instrument cluster and steering-mounted controls.
The new Yaris will have a 1.3 litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine which gives an output of 98hp and 123 Nm. There is also another variant that comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an output production of 106hp and 140 Nm. However, both engines will include either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. The Yaris Toyota is planning to launch in India will likely have the 1.5 litre engine.
The latest updated version of the Toyota Yaris is most likely to arrive in India by early 2021. Along with the new features, one can expect a certain price hike on the model as well. The new model will cost a bit more over its current price range, which is about Rs8. 86 lakh to Rs14. 3 lakh if the ex-showroom price is to be considered. The latest arrival from Toyota is targeted to give a tough competition to cars like the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the new Honda City, the Hyundai Verna, and even the Volkswagen Vento.
