Trail Production of C5 Aircross by Citroen has begun in India

The new Citroen C5 Aircross will be assembled in the CK Birla, Thiruvallur plant in Tamil Nadu and will be coming to India via the CKD or Complete Knocked Down route.

The PSA group which is the owner of the C5 Aircross had confirmed its interest in the Indian market way back in 2018 and for a long time, we have anticipated about what its first-launch is going to be. Finally in March 2019, Citroen which is a French car maker trying to make its place in the Indian market announced the production of C5 Aircross which was first showcased in the Auto expo 2020. However, due to the COVID Pandemic, the debut of the company has been postponed in this country just like many new car launches of existing companies. But nevertheless, the trial production of C5 Aircross by Citroen has begun already in India.

Globally the Citroen C5 Aircross was unveiled long back in 2018. It will be brought to India via the CKD route and then assembled in the CK Birla Thiruvallur plant. Approximately 70% of local content will be used in the making of the car so that the company can keep the prices competitive. Citroen is owned by the PSA Group and it has already invested approximately INR 600 crore in the plant and targets to manufacture 50,000 units of the car in the first year of operation and this includes exports as well. Approximately 200,000 powertrains and 300,000 transmission is possible at the new manufacturing plant every year.

The new C5 Aircross is expected to have approximately 4500 mm in length and there are option for 2.0l engine as well as 1.2 l turbo petrol engine along with 8-speed auto transmission which will be the basic standard for this model. These new drivetrains are also being exported to other parts of the world from India. Furthermore, the car will also feature 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. There is also a 12.3 inch TFT digital instrument screen as well. There will be 20 new driver assistance features in the new model which is soon to be launched in India and is also the debut of the brand in the Indian market. Once launched, the Citroen C5 Aircross is expected to face steep competition from Jeep Compass, Volkswagen T-Roc, Hyundai Tuscan and similar models which are already existing in the market with similar features.
